I’m the type of photographer that likes a challenge. Is your wedding timeline getting tight? Is there limited time or are we in a less than desirable location for portraits? Of course my first goal is to make your wedding day perfect and stress-free, but my backup plan is still making great photos, no matter the circumstances.

This was not one of those ‘bad’ circumstances.

The setting is Red Rock Canyon, about 20 miles outside of Las Vegas, Nevada. The day was absolutely gorgeous, maybe a little chilly, but the perfect weather to do a little walking and hiking. Several amazing photographers and myself pretty much have the entire canyon to ourselves. The clouds were here and there, and the moon was still peaking over the mountain tops. If you could handwrite and request perfect shooting conditions, this is pretty close to what you’d want.

What’s really cool about the shoot, besides the perfect weather, a great model, amazing friends, and the gorgeous backdrop – were the people putting this together. You see, this all started with an idea. As a professional, full time wedding photographer in Savannah, GA, if I have any time I’m not shooting, or editing a shoot, I’m trying to meet with other vendors and plug into the community. And at one such meeting, Tara, from the renowned Posh Petals & Pearls, (an award-winning luxury wedding and event planning service) suggested something amazing: Let’s plan a photo shoot in the Las Vegas Desert!

Mary Elizabeth Gown in Las Vegas

Fast forward a few months, and with the perfect recommendation from Tara, we were able to borrow the perfect wedding gown from our best friends over at Mary Elizabeth’s Bridal! Not only did Tara suggest the perfect boutique to work with, but the girls at Mary Elizabeth’s suggested the perfect gown to travel with! Can you believe that less than three hours before this photo shoot, this gown was packed (tightly!) into my luggage, and flown across the United States? Take note, all the brides who are looking for the perfect elopement gown to do some amazing destination wedding portraits!!

All in all, I’d say we had a super fun photo shoot out in the Las Vegas Desert. Have you ever been to Red Rock Canyon before? Or how about Las Vegas? Do you know of any other awesome spots around the city I should know about? Let me know below!

I almost forgot! I’m also moving to an almost 100% Leica workflow! Can you guess which images above are from the classic 50mm Summilux? They’re my favorite 🙂
