Two days ago I was having a conversation with a friend from the west coast. We were talking about all things photography – gear, editing, best business practices, lighting, and more. And some time in the conversation I started talking about one of the joys of being a wedding photographer in Savannah, GA. A lot of photographers around the country have to wait for a specific time of day for the best light, you might have heard this referred to as ‘the golden hour.’ But we’ve got some extra magic down here in Savannah, GA that lets us shoot, even in the harshest light of mid-day.

If you’ve visited Savannah, you’ve seen the wispy Spanish moss in all of our giant live oak trees. I’ve noticed that this Spanish moss has a really unique diffusing characteristic to the light down here. Because of this diffusion, now I’ve even embraced shooting in the middle of the day, because the trees all light up and give us gorgeous, dappled light all over our wonderful city. Another thing you can’t miss here in Savannah, GA, is all of the antebellum architecture.

Not only is all of the victorian style architecture down here beautiful, but due to the organized layout of the city, much of the available daylight downtown is reflected off Savannah’s historic buildings and homes of gray bricks. Every square you visit in Savannah is surrounded by these beautiful multi-storied homes, that act as amazing reflectors and diffusers for gorgeously lit photographs.

All of this geeky photo-talk does have a point, I promise, haha! I wanted to share today’s blog post of Sunny and John, but I wanted you to think about and notice how the light reflects onto this amazing couple. Sure, they’re smiling, happy, and obviously in love – but the sunlight here in Savannah just does an amazing job helping paint these photos just right. I’m completely blessed to photograph in such a gorgeous city, and I would love to share a little bit of it with you someday.

Enjoy these photos of Sunny and John! If you’re interested in booking your own engagement photo session, or your wedding in Savannah, GA – be sure to contact us today. We’d love to hear from you, and would love to help make your dream photo session come true!

I totally forgot to mention something! These photos were taken between the historic Forsyth Park, and River Street. It was so much fun exploring the city with these two 🙂 All photos were taken on the Leica SL system, and mostly with the 50mm Summilux m-mount lens. I hope you enjoyed the photos!

You did an excellent job of capturing not only their personalities as individuals but also as a fun loving couple. Great work my friend, Savannah has grown nicely on you and your work has only gotten better and better since you’ve been there. Keep it up, looking forward to seeing your next blog post!
