So this post is a little bit reminiscent. Okay, a LOT reminiscent. Every June or July I start to get a little antsy and want to make a run for the land of fire and ice. Honestly, it’s a little strange considering how much I absolutely LOVE summer time and all the heat and humidity it brings with it. But a few years ago Sarah and I went to Iceland for vacation and a big part of me fell head over heels for the beautiful country and ICELAND!

Sorry if the title of this blog post was a little click-baity. Sorry, I don’t have an Iceland workshop in the works right now (just yet…). BUT I did want to tell you a little bit about the time I did teach a workshop in Iceland (with two other amazing photographers, Christina Blanarovich and Lear Miller!), and share some of the photos from that trip.

Just a heads up – the editing on these photos are a lot different than how I edit a wedding. I went a little darker and moodier for these. My personal work is a bit moodier than most weddings I shoot – so take this with a grain of salt! 🙂

A few highlights of the trip before I share the photos:

  1. We rented a 15 passenger van and a 6 person motorhome. We had 14 people, I figured we would need a toilet with us at all times. It was the right call. We also had to push start the motorhome in Vik. Twice.
  2. I had the privilege of marrying two amazing people, Lluvia and Jorge Lopez. I adore these two people, and it was an amazing honor to be the preacher for their wedding. Plus it was pretty rad that the workshop attendee’s got to photograph a real, legit wedding in Dyrhólaey, Iceland.
  3. We had a private swimming pool nestled under a volcano and beside a glacier-fed stream. The water was piping hot and absolutely surreal. If you continued hiking past the pool, you can see my (probably) favorite view in Iceland.
  4. The most fun for me wasn’t seeing all the waterfalls again. Frequently I would run to a waterfall first, just so I could turn around and see the faces of my friends and photographers I brought to Iceland. Seeing them see the sights for the first time was magical.
  5. I’m not allowed to give the details on how I did it, but I was able to get everyone into the Blue Lagoon, even though a last-minute addition to workshop made me short one ticket. I’ll have to explain this one in person, if you want to know 🙂
  6. The trip definitely was not for the faint of heart, and pretty exhausting. The trip was pretty rough, and many times we were hungry and cold. We definitely ate GREAT a ton, and managed to warm up every time – but the trip had it’s challenges, and it’s INCREDIBLE rewards. These folks became some of my best friends.
  7. Oh! And half of these photos are taken on expired 120mm film – can you guess which ones?!
